When Is It Time to Change My Flooring?

Is it time yet?

Is it time yet?

Home renovation projects can be exciting, but it can also cause you headaches with the vast variety of choices you have to make, especially when it comes to the flooring colours and designs. Unfortunately, the floors cannot last forever, and as much as you don’t want to, you might have to go through the whole choosing process again. Although an adequate cleaning process can help you extend the looks and life of the floors, they may require replacement at some point.

For most homeowners, the biggest challenge is to decide when is the right time to change the flooring. Well, there are some common signs that you can use as a guide on when you should start flipping through those samples again.

Here are the common signs that could mean a new flooring is needed:

Your carpets are smelling weird and funky (not in a good way):

If you have pets and kids at home, it is common to have some bodily substances absorbed into the carpets. Unfortunately, even serious deodorisers and high-quality cleaning products cannot take that smell out. The best thing you can do in this condition is to switch to water-resistant flooring to prevent such issues in the future.

There are several stains that cannot be removed:

Stains come with foot traffic and the uncontrollable activities of kids and pets. Unfortunately, some stains are difficult to remove even with some hardcore cleaning process. If you are seeing plenty of stains on your floor or carpet, it is almost time for you to start looking at a replacement – and something that is durable enough to stand up to heavy foot traffic.

Structural issues:

In cases where you are noticing uneven flooring that seems to get worse as days goes, it is definitely time to start contacting flooring companies! Natural deterioration may cause the bond between tiles and the floor's cement surface to come apart over time, and that will cause the titles to swell and pop without much of a warning.

Cracks and chips:

These types of problems are more common with the tiles, and it may happen due to sharp blows such as dropping a heavy pan or due to heavy loads such as a fridge or dryer. It is safer to replace the flooring once cracks and chips appear, especially if there are kids around, to prevent them from cutting themselves while playing on the floor.
